Privacy policy
This policy explains what Tally Tax collects when you submit a request, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Read it alongside our Terms.
The short version
You tell us about your tax situation and how to reach you. We send that information to one licensed tax professional, who pays us a flat fee for it. Under California law and several other state laws, that payment makes this a sale of your personal information, and we say so plainly here. You can opt out at any time through our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.
What we collect
When you complete the request form, we collect:
- Your situation. The tax issue you select and the approximate dollar range involved.
- Your contact details. Name, phone number, and email address.
- Your consent record. The exact consent wording shown to you, the date and time you agreed, and the page address where you agreed.
- Technical and advertising information. Your browser type, the page that referred you, and any campaign identifiers in the link you arrived through, such as utm_source or gclid.
- Anything you send us. Messages you email to us and our replies.
We do not ask for Social Security numbers, tax return documents, or financial account details, and you should not send them to us. Share those only with the professional you decide to work with.
Why we collect it
- To match your request with one licensed tax professional and pass it to them.
- To contact you about your request.
- To keep a record that you consented to be contacted, which we may need to respond to a complaint, a regulator, or a lawsuit.
- To measure which advertising brings people to the site and to improve how the site works.
- To detect fraudulent or automated submissions.
- To meet our legal obligations.
Who we share it with
- One matched tax professional. We send your request to a single professional. They become an independent controller of that information and handle it under their own privacy practices, not ours.
- Service providers. Companies that host the site, deliver our email, store leads in our CRM, and certify consent records, acting on our instructions.
- Advertising and analytics partners. Google (Google Ads and Google Analytics), Microsoft Advertising, and Meta. These partners may set cookies or receive identifiers about your visit, including which ad you arrived from and whether you submitted a request. Under state privacy laws, some of this activity counts as sharing for targeted advertising. We update this list when we add or remove a platform.
- Legal and safety. When required by law, or to protect our rights, our users, or the public.
- A business transfer. If Tally Tax is sold or merged, information may transfer as part of that transaction.
We do not send your request to a list of firms competing for your business.
Sale and sharing of personal information
Tax professionals pay Tally Tax a flat fee for each request we send them. That fee is not a percentage of what you owe and is not tied to the outcome of your case, but it is payment in exchange for your personal information, so we treat it as a sale.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. We do not sell sensitive personal information as that term is defined under California law.
Calls, texts, and how to stop them
When you check the consent box and submit the form, you agree that Tally Tax and the one matched professional may contact you at the number and email you provided, including by calls and text messages that may use automated technology or a prerecorded or artificial voice. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply.
To stop messages, reply STOP to any text, tell a caller you want the calls to stop, or email privacy@tallytax.co. Stopping contact from Tally Tax does not automatically stop contact from a professional we already matched you with, so tell them directly as well.
Text messaging and your mobile number. We do not share your mobile phone number, or your consent to receive text messages, with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. The one tax professional named in the consent you give receives your contact details so they can respond to the request you submitted. That consent does not authorize them, or anyone else, to add you to a marketing list. Service providers who help us operate the site and deliver messages may process this information on our instructions only.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies from Google, Microsoft, and Meta to measure which ads bring people to the site, to see whether a visit led to a request, and to understand how the site is used. These platforms may set identifiers on your device that let them recognize your browser on other sites, which state privacy laws treat as sharing for targeted advertising.
You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of this sharing through our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal as a valid opt-out of the sale and sharing of personal information for browsers that send it.
We also share a scrambled (hashed) version of your email address and phone number with these advertising platforms so they can tell which ads led to a request and improve who sees our ads. Hashing means the platform receives a coded value rather than your address or number in readable form. We do not send what you told us about your tax situation to advertising platforms. You can opt out of this sharing through our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.
How long we keep it
We keep request and consent records for five years so we can respond to disputes, regulator inquiries, and legal claims about whether you consented to be contacted. We keep other information only as long as we need it for the purposes described here.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you and how we use it.
- Get a copy of it, or have it sent to another company.
- Correct information that is wrong.
- Delete it, subject to exceptions such as our need to keep consent records.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and of targeted advertising.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To make a request, use our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page or email privacy@tallytax.co. We will verify your identity before acting on requests about specific information, and we respond within the timeframes the applicable law requires. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with proof of authorization.
Children
The site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has submitted information, email privacy@tallytax.co and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice.
